Installation Tips for Wide Span Storage Racks

Table of Content [Hide]

Wide span storage racks, commonly used in medium-sized warehouses, feature moderate load-bearing capacity, flexible structures, and adaptability to various scenarios. To ensure their effectiveness and long-term stability, the installation process is critical. Proper installation not only affects the load-bearing capacity and safety of the racks but also directly influences warehouse operational efficiency and employee safety. Below are key aspects to focus on during the installation of wide span storage racks.

    Preparatory Work Before Installation

Before installing wide span storage racks, sufficient preparation should be made to ensure smooth construction:

    • Site Cleaning and Measurement: Thoroughly clean the installation area and measure the floor to ensure it is level. Uneven flooring can lead to tilting or instability of the racks.

    • Blueprint Confirmation and Layout Planning: Based on the warehouse floor plan and rack drawings, confirm the rack arrangement, aisle width, picking direction, etc., to ensure they align with warehouse flow.

    • Material Inventory Check: Verify the number and specifications of rack components, such as columns, beams, shelves, and connectors, ensuring all materials are complete and correct.

    Following the Correct Installation Sequence

Wide span storage racks typically use a bolt-together structure, making them easy to assemble, but a scientific installation order should still be followed:

    • Assemble the Column Frame: Connect the two columns with cross braces and diagonal braces to form the basic rack skeleton, and secure them with screws to ensure stability.

    • Fix the Beams: Insert the beams into the hooks on the columns and gently tap them into place using a rubber hammer, ensuring the hooks are fully embedded.

    • Install the Shelves: Based on the design drawings or operational needs, install steel shelves, wooden shelves, or mesh shelves and adjust them to be level.

    • Repeat Module Assembly: Install the next rack unit according to the layout, ensuring that each row remains level and orderly.

During installation, always use a level to check the vertical and horizontal alignment of the components to avoid structural deviations in the future.

    Safety and Stability Considerations

Safety is a top priority during the installation of wide span storage racks:

    • Ground Fixation: For taller or heavier racks, it is recommended to use expansion screws to fix the bottom of the columns to the ground, enhancing stability.

    • Avoid Overheight or Overwidth Connections: Install according to the manufacturer's standard parameters to prevent unauthorized height or width adjustments, which may compromise structural safety.

    • Unified Installation Tools: Use professional tools (e.g., impact drills, electric wrenches) to improve efficiency and avoid using non-standard tools that could damage components.

    Post-Installation Inspection and Adjustment

After the installation of the wide span storage racks, perform a thorough inspection and functional testing:

    • Check if the structure is stable and if there is any wobbling.

    • Confirm that the load distribution is balanced across each shelf.

    • Clear any leftover packaging materials, screws, and other debris to ensure a safe working environment.

    • Mark the weight limits of the racks to prevent safety incidents caused by overloading during future operations.

A stable, well-designed wide span storage rack system not only boosts warehouse efficiency but also lays a solid foundation for the daily operations of a business. It is recommended that companies with the necessary conditions opt for installation services provided by professionals or suppliers to ensure quality and safety.
